Residential activities are fun – Brownies and Leaders consistently rate them among the best things about guiding. They offer opportunities not only for learning and having fun, but also for developing skills like teamwork, leadership and independent living. Leaders are able to get to know the girls in their unit better, in a pleasant environment and over a period of time.
Originally Brownie units went to outdoor camps like their older sisters, but many people felt that Brownies were too young to cope successfully with outdoor life. In 1922 it was suggested that Brownie units had holidays in furnished houses instead of camping. Brownie holidays caught on quickly; girls everywhere delighted in the fun and challenge of living together as a family, playing and working without time restrictions and getting to know each other better.
Today’s Brownies can experience many different types of residential event and venue, including camping – overnight or for a longer period of time.

16th - 18th July 2004
Eighteen Brownies went to Houghton Chapel Retreat. Our theme was Animals. The sixes were Tigers, Monkeys and Rabbits. The Leaders were Owl (Jenni), Dolphin (Laura), Giraffe (Vikki), Horse (Jan), Swan (Claire), Mouse (Emily) and Squirrel (Nichola). Bee (Sheila) came to visit during the day. We decorated pencil cases & sun catchers with glass paints, had an indoor campfire, went to the park and completed our Brownie Traditions badge.
11th - 14th April 2003
We went to Stibbington Environmental Centre for the second time, where we (8 girls) were joined by 2nd Little Paxton (7 girls) and 2nd St Neots (7 girls) and had a fantastic Disney themed holiday. The sixes were Monsters Inc., Dwarves, Lilo and Stitch and Winnie the Pooh. The Leaders were Minnie Mouse (Jenni), Eeyore (Laura), Piglet (Vikki), Cinderella (Jan), Belle (Claire) and Fairy Godmother (Becky). We also had some visiting leaders: Peter Pan (Linda), Dalmatian (Pat) and Tigger (Caroline). We visited Sacrewell Farm, went on a photo trail around the village, had a pyjama party and an Easter egg hunt. We made Hama beads, badges, key rings and pencil cases. We had another warm and sunny holiday.
16th - 21st August 2002
Five Brownies, Jenni and Laura went to Great Hautbois House for a week long Pack Holiday. It was a special holiday for Brownies who were about to go up to Guides. We stayed with Brownies from two other packs; 1st Abbots Ripton and 2nd Salhouse. We went kayaking, did archery and rock climbing, went on the aerial runway and did lots of other activities.
14th - 16th June 2002
We went to Stibbington Environmental Centre near Peterborough and had great fun with our Monsters, Inc. theme. The sixes were Blue Monsters, Red Monsters, Green Monsters and Yellow Monsters. The Leaders were Mike (Jenni), Sulley (Laura), Boo (Vikki), Roz (Jan), Celia (Claire), Randall (Sheila) and Waternoose (Linda). There were 22 Brownies; 17 from our pack and 5 from 2nd Little Paxton. We made window stickers, scary monsters and pencil creatures. We had a Monster fancy dress party, went on a treasure hunt and everyone passed their agility badge. For the first time we had a warm and sunny Pack Holiday.
14th - 16th September 2001
We went to Houghton Chapel Retreat for the second time and our theme was Under the Sea. The sixes were Dolphins, Sealions and Starfish. The Leaders were Whale (Jenni), Shark (Laura), Seahorse (Vikki), Rainbow Fish (Jan), Octopus (Claire) and Mermaid (Sheila). We made mermaids and octopuses and played loads of games. We visited Houghton Mill, became artists for a morning and went to the park for a Scavenger Hunt. Some of the (naughty) Brownies (Starfish Six) stayed up until 5.30am - Whale was not happy!
15th - 17th September 2000
We went on Pack Holiday for the first time. There were 18 Brownies: 15 from our pack and 3 from 2nd Little Paxton. We stayed at Houghton Chapel Retreat, at Houghton in Cambridgeshire and our theme was Winnie the Pooh. The sixes were Tiggers, Eeyores and Piglets. The Leaders were Owl (Jenni), Rabbit (Laura), Roo (Vikki), Kanga (Linda) and Christopher Robin (Jan). Winnie the Pooh (Sheila) was ill and couldn't come. We made balloons and kites and pin cushions. We all made our own Pizzas for tea. We had a treasure hunt around the village and Rabbit with the Piglet six got lost. We also went to the park and played skipping games. It rained a lot but we didn't let it spoil our fun.
